Lifelong adventurer and world-class human Bill Yeo carries with him an undeniable spirit that is both inspiring and humbling. And it was obvious from the start of our conversation that I could have an entire season dedicated to stories of his travels. But we only had an hour to chat (this time), so we jumped right in. We start with memories of a first bike from Western Auto, getting a taste of freedom when he realized at age six he could ride solo all the way to the shopping center, and that with two wheels and an imagination, he could go pretty much anywhere. And he did!! Bill shares a few anecdotes from of his “Ride of Innocence” — where he and his brother Mike took their first bike-packing adventure across Africa with little knowledge of the calamities that might present themselves on the road ahead. We then hear about a months-long trip through the Amazon and into Columbia where cycling is the national pastime— so that even with broken Spanish, the universal language of the bike was all that was needed to connect with the people of that beautiful country.
